Do you know…do you know the self?
Because if you know the self, then you will know what you need to do to get back to being who you truly are.
An excerpt from Prem Rawat’s address in Johannesburg, South Africa.
What if you were marooned on an island, and there it was—seven hundred tons of gold, all yours?
And when I thought of this one, I went, “This is so funny!” I mean it’s like, “Yeah, I’ve always wanted—and that would sound…that sounds amazing.” Tax free?—of course! There’s nobody to come and collect taxes!
“And is it all mine?” Absolutely. “But, what do I do with it?” Nothing—nothing!
I can’t eat it; I can’t…. I mean…and what would I do with it? Absolutely nothing! My “rich” would not be with the gold. It would be with water, and finding food, making a warm fire somewhere, and going to sleep at night.
I mean…just…you know, forget the gold. It’s only in our circumstances do these things have any value. Have you created the circumstance for yourself where you can find contentment, where you can be fulfilled? Because if not, what peace is, is going to mean nothing to you.
What makes you human—human? And what makes you human is your humanity! And if you don’t know what that humanity is, then you will never understand what it is about, what is life, what is this time…what does being here mean.
Because there is another possibility. And the other possibility is that we make the choice to capture the day, that we make the choice to be fulfilled.
Do you know… do you know the self? Because if you know the self, then you will know what you need to do to get back to being who you truly are.
The journey to become you is a journey back. It is undoing! Learning is very little new information. Undoing what you think you know takes most of the time.
