Don’t Get Used To It

Part of being human is learning to live in a modern, chaotic world.
But that doesn’t mean we should get used to it! Our inherent nature is peace, not anger.

There is a scientist who has spent quite a bit of money doing a lot of research, and he has come to a conclusion that we, as human beings, get used to things.

So, if you live in the city…maybe if you come from a quiet village, and you come to the city, and you hear all the noise, at first the brain is going to have a reaction to it. “What is this? Oh my God, it’s so noisy!”

But if you hear this every day, all day, you will actually get used to it. And then the siren blows, and it’s not a problem. You get used to it. And that environment for us becomes normal.

We don’t live in a society where every day the mission of every citizen is to be kind. No! We see somebody taking our parking spot, and a war could start. But it’s completely normal. Why? Whatever society we live in, that becomes normal.

And once it becomes normal, somebody like me comes along and says, “Peace is important.” And people go, “What? What are you talking about?!”

People say, “There is so much greed in this world, there’ll never be peace. There is so much anger in this world, there’ll never be peace.” That’s because we have not understood what our nature is. We have actually gotten used to something that is actually not our nature.

If we can understand our nature, who we really are, maybe we can make the difference. Please, don’t get used to the craziness of this world.
